Description
  • The Copiapoa paposoensis is considered a geographical form of the highly variable Copiapoa humilis. It shares many characteristics with Copiapoa humilis, such as grass-green, bluish-green, grey-green, or occasionally red-brown stems. However, Copiapoa paposoensis has a harder stem compared to Copiapoa humilis.
  • Habitat: It grows at about 1100 m altitude where sunny weather prevails, and in the misty zone at a lower level, Copiapoa humilis grows. The distribution area for both species overlaps slightly, but no hybrids are found between them.
  • Intermediate Characteristics: There are populations of plants with intermediate characteristics linking Copiapoa paposoensis and Copiapoa humilis, suggesting they belong to a unique polymorphic species.

This cactus is perfect for collectors who appreciate the beauty and resilience of desert plants. Add the Copiapoa paposoensis to your collection and enjoy its unique charm and tenacity!

Key Features:

  • Appearance: Copiapoa paposoensis forms small, clumping clusters of spherical to cylindrical stems. The stems are typically dark green to bluish-green, covered in a dense layer of spines that vary in color from white to yellowish-brown.
  • Size: This cactus remains relatively small, making it ideal for indoor cultivation or for adding to a succulent arrangement. It typically grows to about 5-10 cm in height.
  • Flowers: In the spring and summer, Copiapoa paposoensis produces beautiful, bright yellow flowers that emerge from the apex of the stems. These flowers add a delightful splash of color to the plant’s otherwise muted tones.
  • Care: This cactus thrives in well-draining soil and requires minimal watering, making it perfect for busy plant parents or those new to cacti cultivation. It prefers full sun but can tolerate some partial shade. Ensure the soil dries out completely between waterings to prevent root rot.
  • Propagation: Copiapoa paposoensis can be propagated from seeds or offsets.
